All were removed - 3 resignations and an election. What did you have in mind? Some kind of media-driven frenzy and polling? As for their "ill gotten gains", can you tell me which laws you think have been broken? Have you considered reporting them to the police or bringing a private prosecution?
This is a fiction. The US constitution has been broken continuously in the last year with no consequences. Military force in the streets. Detention without charge. Killings at sea with no charge or trial - all unconstitutional, enabled by a partisan SCOTUS.
Countries quite reasonably like their traditions, but the UK law, distributed over centuries of statute and precedent is no more or less robust than those administering it, just like the US constitution and every other legal system
As David Frum has pointed out Trump has merrily ignored all the constitutional norms and it is horrific that it’s taken a paedophile scandal to rein him in.
Thank you that was really insightful, detailed and not emerging through the media. These 'nerdy' tools are so re-assuring, there are democratic mechanism to constrain abuse of power.
Right, how do we go about utilising such mechanisms to thwart global corps and high-roller vested interests?
My top concerns:
inequality
proportional voting freed from Party control
new economic model not preempted on increasing consumerism
A development which finally gives a little glimmer of hope for the future. Now hope that the Epstein files don’t ‘accidentally’ end up on a bonfire or are loaded on a next space flight. After which Trump c.s. jump on a small plane to end up on a small private island where they cannot be found. As I said; a teeny weeny glimmer of hope!
This has bothered me for a long time. Unless they've been stored in some manner that would reveal alteration or deletion, it seems inevitable. It does need a lot of effort though, just changing names could lead to many non sequiturs.
Another interesting article about the criminal in chief who keeps trying to rip up the constitution because of the restrictions it places on him personally to prevent him from becoming a dick tator. We all know he has the first part of that title off pat because he proves time and time again that he cares nothing for the little people and anyone without at least $10billion US to give him for his war chest is a little person in his eyes. We really need to have something similar here to prevent a minority government with a landslide majority in the Commons from riding roughshod over the masses in order to appease their paymasters.
A cynical person might say of course that the reason he's done an about face is because now his team of agents that have been going through the files since he was elected elected, have finished all their shredding and he is relatively secure. He can just keep on repeating that if anything comes out now it proves nothing. Fake news, democrat hoax and so on.
Nov 17. FYI from Ugly Politics: "How Trump Got Cornered on the Epstein Files. The Hidden Power of Boring Procedure" by Mark Kieran." A Brilliant article. Hopefully this will wipe the smug smirk from DJT's face-for a while at least. And I agree with "Trix, I wish that we could have had ways to hold Johnson, Hancock, Truss and Sunak to account for their incompetence and maybe ill gotten gains?" I would also add the name of Jacob Rees Mogg!
Also, It's disgraceful that when "Trump personally called Representative Lauren Boebert on Tuesday (11th Nov.) attempting to get her to remove her name from the petition. The following day, White House officials including FBI Director Kash Patel met with Boebert at the White House in what was described as an attempt to convince her before the petition became locked at 218 signatures. She refused to budge." She reported receiving death threats following Trump’s attacks and said she’s been contacted by private security firms warning about “a hot bed of threats” being “fuelled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world”.😡
This time the Bullies did not get their way.
It's really worth the read! See the full article here. 👇❤️

Can someone please explain what practical effect a vote on the discharge petition will have, other than moving the bill out of committee and onto the floor of the house? Before it has any legislative effect, it has to pass in the US Senate and is then subject to a presidential veto.
Whatever does or doesn't happen as a result of the vote, it's not going to happen any time soon, in other words, and (at least as I understand it) the bill affects only records held by the Justice Department, not sealed records of grand jury proceedings or files held by the FBI orCIA.
He seems to have appointed himself "god", with power over life and death of anyone travelling the coast of South America in a boat. They are probably innocent fishermen or travellers but, there's a slight chance they may be carrying drugs, or even worse, god forbid, refugees, heading for the US, so they must die.

This is why written constitutions and procedural rules matter. Johnson was able to prorogue because the UK lacks a writted constitution

Yours are?
Another concise & clear article - thank you Mark Kieran. Liked, Restacked and Shared to Bluesky as usual.

What if they've doctored the information and have been stalling for time while they did it until now?
Yes, they've had plenty of time haven't they. I don't trust anything that happens under that lying orange twat

Or am I missing something?
It's gratifying to learn that Marjorie Taylor Greene has a grain of decency. However I can't forgive her for her lies about Ukraine.
Very comforting to know that Trump is not a dictator appointed by god. He almost had me foolled!
