Thank you Matt for those insights about the extremists but where is that democratic response - as it is not in the current silence (or is it void) in Westminster?
The bald truth seems to be that 'democracy' if we can term our present politicians as such, has failed you and I and the cynic within me forecasts that it will continue to do so. What hope is there?
If its allowed to keep festering in its current state, British democracy probably will continue to disappoint.
But it has been repaired before and it can be repaired again.
The last thing people like Farage and Lowe want is a system that holds them accountable with binding rules. Strict upper limits on donations. Transparency. Real, enforceable, rules for the social media giants. No more taking it on faith that our politicians will behave like "good chaps." It would put them on a level playing field at least.
I will admit that there is a broader, more global Western malaise – bad economics, regional inequality, uncertainty about our place in the world – that's also propelling these guys with rocket fuel.
But despite all my cynicism (which you'll have encountered if you read what I write here) I think a better democracy – people actually coming together to figure out our future – could assuage those valid frustrations. We could and should have an inclusive national debate about our place in the world and Britain's future, without it being subsumed by endless migration and culture war mania.
Every time I read a piece on Ugly Politix I agree wholeheartedly, and wish it could be aired more publicly - on the mainstream media, to every single human being: Let the message be drummed home relentlessly the Nation, loud and clear until nobody can ignore it or deny it!
Keep it up guys, you seem to be the Nation's Only Hope.
