Putin was elected in a fair election only once, following that he was illegally maintained in power by changing the constitution of the Russian state and holding rigged elections. The criminal in charge of the USA is seeking a third term against the constitution of the USA which he has ripped up and thrown out already. Of course, since he seems to be dying this may be moot. I'm surprised that Garbage hasn't already started mouthing his paymasters dictat that Zelenskyy isn't a legitimate leader unless the election is called (and targeted by Putin to wipe out democracy in Ukraine) after all the man cares nothing for democracy just like his biggest "heroes" (Hitler, Goebbels, Himmler, the dumpster and Putin).

In a way it is sad that a democratically elected government must be justified for following the rule of law. All freely elected governments should do that, unfortunately the current US administration has a problem with that. The war in Ukraine appears existential for Putin. The USSR had problems explaining 40,000 casualties in Afghanistan to its people, Putin would have to explain an enormously high death toll to Russians. Even when he was elected freely once, Chechnya's war had to be intensified to make sure Moscow was seen to be under attack by Chechen rebels and Russians were putting their trust in Putin. The West stood idly by when Putin had his excursions in 2008 and 2014. Now Trump very much wants to help his friends in the Kremlin, Argentina, Hungary and other leaders who have problems with the rule of law. Trump himself is a convict and escaped scrutiny for the havoc he caused on Jan 6, 2021. It's a big test for Europe, whether it can care for its own securities and does not fold to American pressure
