It feels like we are going back in time to Hitler’s Germany. Check points where you have to prove who you are, agents able to enter premises without warrants or warnings, agents free to do what they want and a leader who is willing to lie inspite of evidence to prove that they were wrong. This is what is happening in America, at the moment it’s against immigrants but who’s next? Who will Trump decide to blame for problems that don’t exist. It’s a very frightening and dangerous situation in the USA, what’s even worse is that here in Great Britain we have politicians who believe that Trump is right and what he is doing is fantastic and that we should do it here. When will people wake up and realise all we are doing is going back in time. Blaming minorities for a nations problems when the actual problems are caused by the people making the decisions.

Couldn't agree more.

I've always felt that the far-right will never truly be happy. Even if, somehow, they succeed at deporting every illegal immigrant, I strongly suspect the goalposts would then immediately move to the next most vulnerable demographic. On and on forever. Eventually, they run out of people to blame and start going after each other.

It's why there's no longevity to movements like these – I am quite confident they will ultimately lose. But they can obviously inflict a terrifying amount of damage and destruction in the meantime.

Long seen the ‘special relationship’ as a sentimental and romantic fiction in which the US is an endlessly cooler and better - so yearningly desirable culture and land. That book needs slamming shut.

Well we can’t say we weren’t warned can we?

I can only imagine the courage of those on the inside leaking documents. Maybe even doubt they are doing the right thing - such is how conditioning works.

I heard Caroline Myss speak recently about telling the truth and how rare it has become. She said: It’s so rare that we even have a name for truth-tellers. We call them whistle-blowers.

Matt, ICE are behaving exactly the same way as Hitler's blackshirts did in 1920's Germany. Causing riots which they then use arms to quell by killing all those UNARMED citizens who are expressing displeasure with the regime. I said in 2015 when Shitler announced his run to the WH that electing him would be tantamount to Germany electing Hitler in the 1920's. Now that he is in power for the second time he is rounding up CITIZENS who aren't white, deporting them to countries they have never lived in or visited all in the name of wiping out illegals. Garbage and the Tories want to do the same here and we have to change FPTP to avoid a minority of the electorate giving a massive majority to Garbage in 2029.

Exceedingly well put Zoe. One can only hope that when Trump goes, as he inevitably will, sanity will resume in American politics. In the meantime, we need to distance ourselves from him as much as possible and identify much more closely with Europe. Needless to say, we should never have had Brexit in the first place. How do we stop Farage?

Wake up everyone who can vote! We must keep these people out of our lives and never allow them power. The consequences of the far right winning power are truly terrifying.

It's the Gestapo in modern form. We all know what that means - and the very word evokes an instant response of fear and horror.

ICE on the other hand sounds a like natural force, cold, yes, but clean and sharp and efficient, not immediately scary.

How long before it is undeniably the modern synonym for Hitler's secret police? Or has it already achieved that?

Liked, restacked & shared to Bluesky (as always). The West will be lost should "ICE" be created in the UK. And I do worry.

The officer heading up Minnesota's ICE operation (before he was hastily transferred), was actually dressed in an overcoat clearly styled on the Gestapo overcoats.

I try to avoid Facebook, but when I was on it recently I saw so many posts comparing Starmer to a Nazi...one even spoke of his 'SS force'. It is perpetually amazes me (but does not suprise me because it is so common) how people can believe the exact opposite of what is the case. I think you have captured this in your article; because it is not Starmer who wants a paramilitary secret police, to withdraw us from the ECHR and the rest, but the party who those Facebook commenters want in...

An hour ago a US republican speaking on the World Service claimed that ICE officer, Jonathan Ross, who shot Renee Goode in Minneapolis suffered "Internal Bleeding" as a result of the incident. I can only find reference to this being confirmed by unnamed 'US Officials'. The World Service DJ did not challenge the Republican's assertion. I've also heard that a Crowd Funder thing has be opened for Mr Ross and is o'er-flowing. Hello Authoritarianism -

We know what to expect when the local police chief is named 'Murk', don't we?
