PS: Just shared your post in the GET PR DONE! Facebook group ( that I co-founded in Jan 2020).

That is what we need- instead of one rich backers party against a richer backed party

Right with you. But difficult to get the idea of PR across. We had a national referendum on PR in 2012 but barely anybody noticed it! We need something simple, transferrable vote perhaps. The Scottish system is very sophisticated but most people are unsure of how it works.

Danger is that populist give simple unrealistic solutions and peoples fall for that because of dinserformation . Reform is a cancer in uk and uk lost so much since 2016

Thanks, Alan. Great piece. Your line "Elections are supposed to be run for the public interest, not to serve partisan interests." REALLY resonates with me!

Do a Google for the work of Dennis Pilon, a Canadian political scientist. +++ Or watch this:https://getprdone.org.uk/how-did-other-democracies-get-proportional-representation/

Added that to my 'weekend reading' list. 👍🏻

The push towards a proportional (preferential) system of voting in UK elections is a worthy one. You might also care to add Australia to the countries that use a PR system at elections.

A National Commission delivering one alternative to FPTP is great. I would vote for that.

The unicorn is the national animal of Scotland. I would prefer not to see one depicted with Farage on its back. Farage has significantly less support in Scotland than in most other parts of the UK, and long may it continue.

I'm reminded that in 2011, the referendum on FPTP v. AV went by 67.9% to no change.

Yes we need PR as the system is stacked the wrong way, but knowing this country nothing will get done. There’s plenty of posturing but no guts to it. And as we know Reform is done as they’ve shot themselves in the foot so there’s nothing left. And after Labours decimation of the country there’s no recovery going to happen.
